After Holy Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on 1st January 2013, our previous parish priest, Fr Guy de Gaynesford, consecrated our parish to the Blessed Virgin Mary. May the Virgin watch over everything we do as a parish community.
O Blessed Mother Mary, on this the feast that celebrates your motherhood of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we come before you in praise of your faith and your trust in Almighty God. The father chose you before time to bear his Son, and he prepared you by the power of the Holy Spirit and through a unique gift of grace to be the worthy mother of our salvation. Today we entrust to you this parish of Paignton. We ask you to bless in the name of your divine Son every family, every home and every place of work within it. Through your prayers may we work for the proclamation of the Gospel, seeking always to laud and magnify God’s holy name in every pastoral work in which we engage. We place under your patronage and we consecrate to you every society and organisation of our parish. Inspire within us a deeper faith, an ardent hope and a more selfless love so that we may serve the Church your Son has founded and work with Him for the salvation of all. O Mother of divine love, O cause of our joy, O Queen of all saints, hear the prayer we offer you, and make of us a gift fitting of your most holy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mother of the redeemer, with great joy we call you blessed. God the Father chose you before the creation of the world. You believed in his love and obeyed his word. God the Son desired you for his mother when he came to save the human race. You received him with a ready obedience and an undivided heart. God the Holy Spirit loved you as his mystical spouse and he filled you with singular gifts. You allowed yourself to be led by his hidden and powerful action. To you we entrust the Church which invokes you as Mother. On earth you preceded her in the pilgrimage of faith. Comfort her in her difficulties and trials. Make her always the sign and instrument of intimate union with God and of the unity of the whole human race. To you, Mother of the human family and of the nations, we confidently entrust the whole of humanity with its hopes and fears. Let it not lack the light of true wisdom. Guide it to seek freedom and justice for all. Direct its steps in the ways of peace. Enable all to meet Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. Sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our pilgrimage of faith, and obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation. O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother of God, and our Mother, Mary.
